This April 22nd, Quest will be commemorating World Hunger Day and joining together with men, women and children all over the world to fight against hunger and poverty.  In case you don’t know what the issues around hunger are here are a few statistics sited by Bread for the World:

More than 850 million people in the world go hungry. In developing countries, 6 million children die each year, mostly from hunger-related causes. In the United States, 12.4 million children live in households where people have to skip meals or eat less to make ends meet. That means one in ten households in the U.S. are living with hunger or are at risk of hunger”.

In the states, one in ten families do not know where their next meal will come from.  It is sobering to acknowledge that so many in our world are suffering with hunger while we are rich with resources.  So as we acknowledge that gap we have an opportunity together as a church to act in order to bless others in our neighborhood.

On Sunday, April 22nd we will have the opportunity to ‘bless’ our neighbors by raising a donation of food for a local food bank: Ballard Food Bank in response to the disparity between the ‘haves’ and the ‘have nots’ right here in our community.  During service on the 22nd we will have baskets all over the warehouse in order to collect donations.  It will be incorporated in our worship service so that we as a community can see together our sacrifice to God.  There will be more information to come including a list of needed items for the Ballard Food Bank.

Blessed to be a blessing,

Pastor DeAnza
