As we’re approaching Martin Luther King, Jr. Day in a few weeks, it’s important to reflect on his significant legacy as an African American Baptist Preacher, Civil Rights activist, and Nobel Peace Prize laureate. I think if we’re honest, for many of us, remembering MLK is little more than a few memorable soundbites and maybe a day off from work if we’re lucky. But today, more than ever, it’s crucial that we learn to listen more closely to the prophetic voice of MLK as we confront the ongoing struggle for peace, justice, and equality in the face of war, racism, and exploitation.
Part of our desire is to continue the conversation from this past fall’s Faith & Race Depth Class which was a great opportunity for many of us to learn and question together about what it means to be a multi-ethnic church striving to engage issues of faith and racial justice in the city. But even if you weren’t part of the class, we’re hoping that many from Quest would come together as we celebrate Seattle’s 26th Annual MLK March & Rally. Seattle’s MLK celebration is one of the biggest in the nation, and it’s quite an experience to gather with thousands of people who are struggling together to keep MLK’s legacy alive.
So on Monday, January 21st, we’ll be meeting at Franklin High School at 11AM for the rally, followed by the march which begins at 12PM. Afterwards, we’ll be gathering at my home for a casual post-march conversation (and a hot cup of tea/coffee!) and time of fellowship. If you want to RSVP, email me at david @ seattlequest.org and remember to dress warmly!

David,
My sister and myself attended Quest for the first time last sunday and we would like to attend the MLK event. Will there be workshops or at least some education on MLK and his dream? I would like my little sister to be knowledgeable of this man and his work.
Thank you,
Bree Blackhorse
